The Cooper Molera Adobe, originally dating from 1827, is a National Trust Historic Site in Monterey’s Old Town Historic District. It represents the diverse and layered history of the families who lived in and built Monterey, from its early years as the political and commercial capital of Mexican Alta California, through the development of the State of California. The site includes two adjacent adobe homes, a corner store, an adobe warehouse, a barn complex, and beautiful gardens and grounds on roughly 2.5 acres surrounded by a historic adobe wall. Cooper Molera also represents a new “shared use” vision for an operating historic site, in which the property is shared by museum spaces and compatible commercial operations, and interpretation of the property’s history is woven throughout in creative and experiential ways.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a privately funded nonprofit organization, works to save America’s historic places. Cooper-Molera Adobe is a part of the National Trust’s portfolio of 28 historic sites around the country.
