Mecum Monterey Auction Combines Exotics, Supercars, Classics and Muscle

Mecum’s Daytime Auction Set for Aug. 18-20 at Del Monte Golf Course

Walworth, Wis. – August 9, 2022 – More than 50 consignments comprising the world’s finest exotics and supercars will join a stellar 600-car lineup of American muscle, classics, prewar and other featured vehicles as Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction company, returns to the Del Monte Golf Course at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa in Monterey, California, this Aug. 18-20 for its annual Daytime Auction. Live coverage of this celebrated Car Week staple auction event will be broadcast on MotorTrendTV.

Highlights among the most recently consigned vehicles include a Heritage Graphite 2020 McLaren Speedtail (Lot S51) that is No. 91 of 106 produced and shows just 728 actual miles on its 4.0L/1,035 HP M840T twin-turbocharged V-8 engine; the car boasts a parallel hybrid system eMotor and a 7-speed Graziano dual-clutch automatic transmission. Another modern supercar offering with significant provenance is a 2014 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille Heritage Edition (Lot S50) that is one of just three produced honoring the Bugatti factory driver who won both the 1937 and 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car was designed to emulate the exterior of the 1937 Le Mans-winning Bugatti Type 57G Tank, and its presentation at Mecum Monterey 2022 is akin to a homecoming occurrence as the Jean-Pierre Wimille Legend Edition debuted in August 2013 in Pebble Beach, California.

The Monterey auction will additionally feature a 2017 Ford GT (Lot F83.1) and one of just 23 original factory 427 Competition Cobras produced. The 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra (Lot F52) wears Serial No. CSX3006 and was campaigned throughout Europe in 1966 and driven by three Formula 1 drivers: Chris Irwin, David Piper and Bob Bondurant. It boasts an extensive restoration performed by Legendary Motorcar Company back to its original specifications, and it retains its original aluminum body and chassis.

Two vehicles piloted by the late actor Paul Walker are also slated for the Monterey auction block, including his personal 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (Lot S58)—the purchase of which he recounted to Jay Leno during an airing of “The Tonight Show” in 2011—as well as a 2001 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec II (Lot S68.1) that he drove to promote the release of the films that make up the famed “Fast & Furious” franchise in which he starred.

The Classic Low Mileage Collection—with all but one of the 22 lots to be offered at no reserve—includes nine Cadillacs and four Chevrolet Corvettes, highlighted by a 1931 Cadillac 370A V-12 Fleetwood Sport Phaeton (Lot S32) that was an AACA Senior Grand National winner and a 1955 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (Lot S17) that is No. 214 of the 700 built and is presented in Harvest Gold with a 265/195 HP V-8 engine and Powerglide automatic transmission.

Other vehicle highlights include a one-of-63 2020 Lamborghini Aventador LP770-4 SVJ 63 Roadster (Lot S54) with just 559 miles, a 1915 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Tourer (Lot S47), a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary edition (Lot S28) showing just 157 kilometers and an ACD Category No. 1 Certified Original 1929 Duesenberg Model J LaGrande Blind Quarter Brougham (Lot S29), to name just a select few.

Among the items of Road Art and automobilia to be offered prior to the vehicles on Thursday, Aug. 18 through Saturday, Aug. 20 is a Vintage Children’s Bugatti Carousel (Lot Z309) with eight individual cars that resemble the Bugatti Type 44 built from 1927-1930 and a 1950s Ferrari Formula 1 500 Pedal Car (Lot Z308) with a handmade Formula 1 type nose, cowling and aluminum "engine turned" dash panel, a padded and Italian leather-covered seat pan with a steel/chrome mahogany steering wheel, hub and aluminum horn cap, and a set of handmade spoke-wheel true knock-offs with Borrani logo engravings.
