Monterey County Welcomes You! The health and well-being of our visitors and our residents is our top priority. Please visit responsibly.

All of Monterey County is now open for leisure travel in accordance with the Monterey County Health Department. Leisure travelers are permitted to enjoy the area's hotels, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, art galleries, and outdoor recreation.

Hotels, restaurants and other local businesses have worked hard preparing for your return, implementing operational and physical changes with your health and safety in mind. So, when you’re ready to take a physical-distancing-friendly escape, you can rest easy knowing that Monterey County will be the ultimate safe place to visit with your loved ones.

What You Need to Know
Before You Arrive

All visitors are asked to please observe safety protocols including:

  • face coverings while out in public, and especially indoors
    cities including City of Monterey is fining non-compliance with a $100 fine
  • maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet
  • employ frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing
  • stay home if and when feeling ill
  • be patient as enforcing new protocols and cleaning take time

Check with individual businesses to confirm business hours, available services, and individual guidelines.

 

LODGING

The majority of Monterey's hotels and inns are now open for guests. Monterey County's hoteliers have implemented Clean & Safe Commitment protocols to ensure the highest level of safety for our visitors, employees and residents. Browse our hotels and contact them for additional questions.

RESTAURANTS

Restaurants can now open for outdoor dining, takeout or delivery services with safety protocols in place. Restaurants require guests to wear masks upon entering, walking to restrooms and while being seated. Additionally, some restaurants have expanded outdoor seating experiences to accommodate more guests.

Please be patient when dining and plan ahead of time, reservations is highly recommended! Restaurants are not operating at full capacity seating and might be short-staffed. Show them some love ❤️ and support and please don't jump into writing a bad review. Communicate with your host or server when service is not up to your standards. BEACHES

Beaches are open to visitors to enjoy physical activity and for recreation. Face coverings and proper physical distancing is required.

SHOPPING / ART GALLERIES / SALONS / SPAS

Some retail shops, spas and art galleries are open for walk-in customers with safety protocols in place. Visitors must wear a facial covering and practice physical distancing. Browse our Shopping Guide for more information.

WINE TASTING ROOMS / BREWERIES / BARS

July 8 Update: All wine tasting rooms, bars and breweries are closed again for 3 weeks per California's order due to increase COVID-19 cases.

Wine tasting rooms, bars and breweries can now open with safety protocols in place. Many have expanded outdoor patios to accommodate additional guests. Tasting hours will vary and be limited to accommodate guests safely.

EVENTS

Per the Monterey County Health Department, all events have been canceled or postponed for the foreseeable future. No gatherings over 10 people are allowed, or allowed. Check our Calendar of Events for the latest.
